Ten-man Everton imploded within the space of eight second-half minutes as they threw away a 1-0 lead at the hour mark to lose 2-1 to Bournemouth - and extend their home winless run to six games.
David Moyes' side led through Iliman Ndiaye's first-half penalty but a mix of poor finishing and bad defending brought Bournemouth back into it.
Everton should have been out of sight as Thierno Barry missed two big chances in either half - putting a sitter wide after Djordje Petrovic spilled James Garner's free-kick into his path. Then after half-time, Barry saw a close-range finish well blocked by Alex Jimenez - but the Everton striker still should have scored.
Everton were made to pay as Bournemouth's equaliser came from Rayan - who conceded a penalty for a clumsy foul on Jarrad Branthwaite. He latched onto Adrien Truffert's expert cross to head home at the far post.
It was Rayan's third goal involvement in three games since being signed as Antoine Semenyo's replacement - after his goal against Aston Villa last weekend and an assist at Wolves.
Two minutes later Bournemouth had turned it around as James Hill - who put in two excellent blocks to deny Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall earlier in the second period - headed across for Amine Adli to head into an empty net.
There was a VAR check for substitute Enes Unal being involved in that strike from an offside position, but the referee stuck with the officials' on-field decision of goal.
It went from bad to worse for Everton five minutes later as Adli was put through on goal and Jake O'Brien brought him down. Despite being a long way from goal, referee Andy Madley brandished the red card as he was the last defender.
Everton fought on despite the man disadvantage, but Beto - who replaced Barry - and Branthwaite failed to convert headers from inside the box.
Everton were booed off by their home fans at full-time. They had a big chance to enter the top six - and go ahead of Liverpool for 24 hours at least. But instead, it's Bournemouth who go level on points with them.
Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola:
"Important three points. We haven't played as well as the last games and this is the one you win. The game against Aston Villa, we were much better than we were today but got one point there.
"We were very close to going 2-0 down which would have been very difficiult. But we passed those moments, and from the subs we did a little bit better.
"The half-time message was just to keep more of the ball. We did not have the urgency that we needed to play, we were happy with 0-0. We cannot be like this. We have to go against them and ask for the ball, show personality and make things happen.
"We improved a lot - in the last minutes I didn't like them as they don't need a lot to make danger. They go direct with every free-kick and Pickford. But I was not as pleased as I was in the last games."
Everton head coach David Moyes:
"I'm not ready to assess it to be honest. I'll look back in a few days to see how it went. We could have possibly won, but we didn't. We'll have a look back.
"They got a couple of balls in the box which we didn't deal with. We should have done much better.
On Bournemouth's winning goal and a potential offside: "I'm the wrong person to ask at the moment about refereeing decisions.
"The players here are doing brilliant. They're doing an amazing job in how they've been performing. Sometimes you don't get it right. But we play good teams who don't make it easy for you."
