Danny Röhl: Rangers head coach shares title race belief but warns against repeating Arsenal mistake

Danny Röhl declared "there should be no question mark" over his Rangers players' ability to handle a Scottish Premiership title fight.

The Ibrox club have clawed to within two points of leaders Hearts and are a point ahead of defending champions Celtic, who have a game in hand, in what has developed into a compelling battle for the championship.

Now, the German head coach wants his team to turn the screw after that win over the Jambos and put themselves in the best position possible by the time the league splits in April.

Rangers have six matches before the split, starting with Sunday's visit to bottom side Livingston - live on Your Site.

"After every result we will think, 'ah, maybe it could be this team, it could be this team'," said the Gers boss. "I'm totally convinced that it's now about consistency. Who takes the most points until the split, I think this is also a part of it.

"You have to prepare for the final five games with the next six games. If you do well [before the split], then you have a great opportunity. And in the final five games, everything is possible because you have the teams around you.

"But it's crucial now, you can think it is just three points but it's massive because it can really decide if it's [a gap of] two, five or eight points [by the split].

"Two points looks at the moment good but we are still not in the first position, we are still in second position."

Rangers have lost just one of their 19 league matches since Röhl replaced Russell Martin in October.

That run of results means his side has taken the most points of any team in the top flight since he took over at Ibrox.

"I totally believe we can do it," he said. "It's not just about the last results, there's no doubt about our strength of this squad now, of the individual players. There should be no question mark.

"But football is football. It's all about 11 against 11 in 90 minutes. And in one game, everything is possible. We have to do it very seriously, very aggressively.

"It's now about these games where you think you have to win to take the three points. I think this is crucial. If you want you can compare maybe the similar situation in the week, Arsenal at Wolves [a 2-2 draw in the Premier League].

"Everyone will think, 'yeah, this is an easy win', but even in these games the teams are down and they have sometimes not so much to lose and they try everything and it's very important that we go serious.

"But I feel at the moment there's no doubt [about the players]. The mindset is completely there."

Röhl reported that defender Derek Cornelius and midfielder Connor Barron are on track to return from injury next month, but Gers have suffered some fresh fitness issues ahead of Sunday's trip to Livingston - live on Your Site.

"We have to change some players. Not that I want to, I have to," he said. "We have small injuries but I cannot go into too much detail today, but you will see, I think, on Sunday.

"One is short term, one is long. I think one player will be two to three weeks and the other one is doubtful for Sunday. There could be two or three changes for the weekend."
